Passive House

What is Passive House?

The Passive House Standard is a building standard that promotes low-energy building design as well as a comfortable and healthy indoor environment. The standard was established by the Passive House Institute in Germany in the 1990s and has since been adopted around the world.

Passive houses are designed and constructed following a set of passive design principles that drastically reduce the dependency on mechanical systems to maintain the desired indoor environment. Some of the key design strategies to achieve Passive House Standard includes optimized building form, highly insulated and airtight enclosure, thermal bridge free detailing, high performance windows, heat recovery on ventilation air, and solar control.
